Signs

Many years ago, in the area where I live, there battles were fought between, the English and the French, English and U. S, Native people against all of those previously noted, plus others, I am sure I have not mentioned.   Where these battles were fought plaques and cairns have been erected by the side of the road which either give directions to visit certain places off the beaten track, or note the exact spots where these conflicts took place.  The plaques provide information as to the, who, what, where when and why information.

I am mentioning this as the country side is dotted with a lot of these information sites, and during a ride yesterday with my ex, we duly noted some of those we have visited or stopped at previously.  However, as we made a turn in the road, I saw there was a new one.  Not the kind made of brass or stone as the others were but, with modern elements, of steel and plastic, held in place by cement blocks.

Written on the black background, large red letters showed this.

AT THIS SITE,

ON APRIL 17 th, 1889,

NOTHING HAPPENED.

Who ever put it there must have had a good sense of humor, as I certainly did have a good chuckle as we drove past.  I should have taken a picture, but my phone has too many of this kind a photo, so decided not too.

Have a great day.

Cheers

Change of direction

On a normal day I don't have anything interesting to blog about, so the direction is changing from my day to day happenings to something which interests me.

I will include things of a non personal nature and..........

QUILTING

In the coming days I will be posting projects that I have done in the past which may or may not have been posted before, along with a little story about it or why I made it.

Starting soon you will see the products of my labour over the years.

I am sorry if this stops some of my readers from visiting, however, it may open up new doors for others to explore what I do or have done in the past.

Have a great day.

Cheers

Late Post today

Yesterday, I visited my sister "B" her arm is so much better now, but she still needs to do some exercies.

We wanted to take the convertible, but as soon as we got it out of the garage, grey clouds let loose with drops of rain, we hummed and hahhed  about going.  So I looked at trusty computer weather site and there was only a small patch of green over our city, green mean light rain, which nine times out of ten evaporate before it hits the ground.   We decided we were not made of sugar and would not melt, so off we set,  a lovely sunny day and hot all the way to B's house.

Had a call from DD1 and she invited us to a family BBQ,  recently I was simmering about my family not calling or visiting, some for months and some for almost a year.  I boiled over  the other day and it looks as if I got some results.  Feeling so much better.

My son texted me today, he had the opportunity to get tickets for a golf tournament in the UK next year and asked us if we would like to be travelling companions.    Hope it happens, its a long way off, so fingers crossed.

Not much else happened today, did a couple of errands and sewed in the afternoon.  The dreaded quilt top is almost finished.   All most contemplated suicide with pins and my seam ripper, as it was so frustrating.  Everything about this top is out of my comfort zone, so struggled with it from the get go.

My friend, who was in hospital for 5 weeks with Covid messaged me today, she is home, but still very weak so it will take baby steps to get back on her feet.  She is very lucky to still be here, she said, as she felt she was not going to survive.  Apparently a kidney is still working, definitely a plus for her.

Dinner today was salmon, rice, broccoli and a small salad.  Dessert vanilla mousse.

Just looked at this post  ...Not 51 weeks........only 5 weeks.  still a long time.

Bare branches

As I look out my windows this morning there are a lot of bare branches, are the leaves finally down?  They are in the back garden and reveal a hornets nest hanging on one of the branches over the house next door.   These nests are made by the hornets after they have chewed wood to make a plup..  During the Summer we had a lot of hornets settle on an old wooden pole, and upon close inspection you could see them taking the soft outer grey layer of the wood off and exposing fresh clean brown wood.  If we could get up to see the inside of this nest it would reveal layers of a thin paper mache and further inside would show the combs similar to those found in bee hives.  Nature is so fascinating to watch, and when thinking about all the work that went into this nest those hornets worked for hours and hours to build it.    I tried to take a photo of it, but it didn't turn out well enough to show.

We have a mixture of nice bright sunshine and dark grey clouds, Mother Nature can't make up her mind today to give us either one for the whole day.   The dark ones are likely full of snow, so they can just blow right on by.  It is quite cold out there also.

Not much happening today, only the regular routine things that need to be done.

Dinner tonight fish, veg and salad, will make a jelly with fruit for dessert.

Out to Lunch

Looking forward to having lunch with two friends today.  Have not seen one of them for a couple of years, so it is going to be great to catch up, I can see a long lunch break coming up today.

Yesterday was a glorious day, temp went up to 16*C beautiful blue skies and sunshine all day.   I went for a 3/4 hour walk, increasing the time a little each day, and intend to walk everyday even if it is just that length of time.  Overdoing it is not a wise thing to do at this point in time.   I did get some exercise from the bending and stretching  during the gardening season but that is all over now for a while, so hopefully the Winter will be kind and the streets won't be to icey for walking.  I will be taking my hiking poles with me, I find they help considerably.   A lot of people that walk by the house are using them, a good investment in my opinion.

Hubby picked up leaves at our neighbours property yesterday, ours are still green on the trees, so none on the estate to be picked up, except some blown from other gardens, not enough yet to worry about.

Not much else happening today, except the repairman is coming "sometime today" to fix the drier.

Dinner last night was OK,  some days I just don't feel like preparing a meal, and yesterday was one of those days.  Must think about today's dinner soon.

So with that, I am going to wish you all a good day.

Tomato Sling

No!... we are not throwing tomatoes.

We have five tomato plants on our patio, I have mentioned this before, however, two are the beefsteak variety and the tomatoes are getting quite large.  One even fell of the plant, don't know if it had help from a deer or just too heavy to stay there.   We have been thinking a support of some kind should help them grow to maturity.  What to use?   The perfect solution.......used surgical masks.....Oh my goodness they worked perfectly.   Recycle and reuse.

We have a hot and very humid day, with thunderstorms predicted for later on today.   As I write the clouds have now covered the sun and the wind is blowing... you know.....the kind of wind that bring rain, so the forecast is looking right, at least, at this point in time.

The bird world must know there is going to be a change in the weather, as they have been coming to the feeders and bird bath as we were eating our lunch.  Getting filled up before they need to take cover.

We are been watching the Shark programs on TV this week, we have learned so many things from this program, wish there were more like it, focusing on other  species.

Had an appointment with Dr. this morning just to get something checked out,  all is good, don't need any health issues, so a load off my mind.

I was working in the garden yesterday and got told off by Hubby for doing the hard work I was doing,  He took over the job and finished just before our dinner.

By the way,  the steak dinner was delicious.  Tonight is going to be hot dogs, brown beans and a salad, the last of the strawberries for dessert.

One solved

After checking everything possible with the smoke detector, we determined the unit was defective, new one installed and we are good.  The car is still a mystery.

Did some gardening yesterday, sat in the sun with a drink (water) and did some hand sewing on the placements, after that break I did some more gardening.

Hubby came home yesterday, with sore knees and back, he was mowing too much soil for his daughter, will be taking it easy for the next couple of days.

We have another lovely day, even the air smells different, warm and no nip to it.   The forecast is good for the next seven days, sunny and temps in the low 20's *C.

Not much happening here today.

The tuna casserole last not was not to my liking, will not be making it again.

Have a great day.

Back into Red

We have now been placed back into the red category due to increased numbers of covid  cases,  which means tighter restrictions  for everyone.  There are individuals that think going to bars and drinking green beer on St. Patrick's day was OK, wearing no masks, no social distancing etc etc.  We are now suffering the consequences of those few.  It makes me angry that people just don't get it, they think, "it won't happen to them", never a thought  about other people.

The change in restrictions do not make much difference to us, but it does to others who are trying to do the right things. Businesses are suffering and closing, people are now suffering because of loosing their jobs.  Everyone is paying the price of a few who did not do the right thing.  Rant over.

We have a beautiful sunny day, the sun is very warm coming in the windows that face towards the south.  My daffodils are in bloom, and the grass is greening up from the recent rain we have had.  Spring  has finally sprung.

Not much happening here today, we did go to the grocery store during the senior hour first thing this morning.  I need to travel to a neighboring city this afternoon to drop off a quilt on a guilds members  front porch.  She will be doing the quilting on her long arm  machine for me, this quilt is just too big for me to do it on my sewing machine.  Then to another members front porch to pick up some small batting pieces for the placemats our group is making.

Not sure what Hubby is up to today, I know he is just itching to be able to get outside and do things out there.  He is going to make a garden shed for his daughter, but  it is a bit too cold to do that outside just yet.  Plus he is not sure if there is sufficient lumber at the stores right now to do it.  His daughters' neighbour  wants to finish building a fence, however, there is no lumber available for that.

Dinner tonight, our usual Tuesday chicken, scalloped potatoes , veg and salad, dessert there are two portions of chocolate mousses left, so that is all taken care of.

IT'S IN THE AIR

Good morning, it is a little cooler today, so as I noted in my title,  summer is fading and autumn is not very far away.  The sun is rising...
