Summer???

Looking outside today I wonder if Mother Nature is playing a trick on us, the weather is nothing as our Summer should be.  It is wet, not a lot of rain, enough so that nothing can be done outside, not that I am going to do anything any way.  It is not cool, in fact, it is very humid, for obvious reasons.

Maybe she is acclimatizing me for the weather we might expect while on vacation, whatever comes my way  I am prepared.  I have everything and anything, I do like to be organized.

Laundry whirling away in the washer and dryer, ready for putting away soon.   That reminds me. While away I will be meeting with a cousin, who wants copies of the documents I have, concerning our family,  ancestry.  One documents wash day, when my great aunt was a child, so going back a long way.  Reading it certainly makes me realize how fortunate I am to be able to turn a dial, water comes in, washes, rinses, water goes out and clothes spin to remove the water,  Into the dryer, heat and tumble dry in a short period of time.  The whole process taking a couple of hours, for my great aunt  it took from sunup to sundown, even then the clothes may not be dry.  The rest of the week, ironing and mending.

There is another outdoor music festival in this city today, wanted to go, however, not sitting in the rain under an umbrella.   Also missed the one last weekend for the same reason.  Maybe next year.

 Have a great day.

Cheers.

Have been busy

Another weekend looming, the weather is going to be wet from the forecasts I have looked at.  That's OK, I have several things in the house need doing before we embark on our vacation.

I want to make the September block for the quilting group, as I am sure I will be leaving it to the last minute,  if I don't do it now.  All the fabric colours, yellow, grey and white for the pattern I have decided to make are waiting.

Suitcases are ready to be packed, all of my clothes are on the bed along with all the other paraphernalia I always take.  Some time ago I did buy myself a new suitcase, one that can be wheeled along side of me so that is a plus.  The ones I had were as old as the hills, so needed to go, sent them to a charity shop where someone will be able to use them.  Nothing wrong with them, just too difficult for this old bird to manipulate.

You may or may not hear from me again until my return and then it might be a bit sketchy, time will tell.

Have a great day.

Cheers.

Breathable air

The area had a good rain yesterday, total was over 1 1/2 inches, it has cleared the air of all the humidity and it is cooler which makes it pleasant  to be outside which is a big improvement from the past few days.  I am sure we are not done with the hot, humid conditions yet, as we have a lot of Summer left.

What am I up to today, need a little trim for my hair, if I wait until the first week of August I when I return from vacation, I will look and feel like a shaggy dog, hate that feeling, time to do something about today.

Also need to take a few more photo copies of some documents for my cousin in the UK.  Need to pick up some picture hanging wire, as I am giving a great grandson a fabric picture of the solar system I made in our guilds challenge a couple of years ago.  He is interested in the stars etc. so he should like it.

Earlier this week Hubby needed to get a new phone as his quit working, went to a store to replace it, the young man who helped us went over and above what he is supposed to do.  Told us he has just got married after living with his girlfriend for three years, got out his phone and showed us his wedding photo, you could tell in his eyes and smile how much he loved this young woman.  They recently found out they were expecting a child.  I left that store feeling as if the world would be a much better place it more young people were like him.  He made such a big impression on me, when I returned home I had the urge to do "a random act of kindness"

I have had a couple of quilts, one being a baby quilt,  all finished that were going to the nursing home my Mother was in, however, for some reason this year, they did not want them for their raffle, I suspect due to Covid fears.  So they have been sitting there waiting to be given to someone.  I found that someone, took it to the store and gave it to the young man, he was delighted.  All I asked was that he "pay it forward" by doing another random act of kindness to someone else. That day I felt really good, it has been a long time since I felt that  way.

So decided to do it again.  The other quilt, is going to DD1's sister- in - law.   She is battling cancer, with surgery scheduled for next week.  Her siblings are having an early birthday BBQ for her on Sunday.  I have met her several times, she has had a rough time due to various family issues. Giving the quilt to DD1 tomorrow to give it to the B day girl on Sunday, included is a little card.  Feeling great again.  May have to do a little more often.

Have you ever done a random act of kindness?  I recommend it.   Nothing too small may just make someone's day.

Have a great day.

Hot and Humid

This hot and humid weather is just the perfect combination for thunderstorms and heavy rain, which happened today, however, I was not home, where I was - no rain.

I was out having lunch with two friends in a nice tea room, they call themselves a tea room but, they service delicious lunches.   No fancy cups and saucers and tiers of mini sandwiches and cakes to be found here, have to go to a real tea room for that which is not very far from where we were.

A nice afternoon with these  two gals.

The lawns and gardens have been revived with the rain we have been having, so lots of grass cutting and weeding being done, not by me though.   Summer perennial flowers are starting to bloom, garden going to look nice when we are not here, thats OK some will be flowering still.

Workers have been busy for the past several weeks making holes in everyone's lawn and threading a cable though for fibre optics.  Digging the holes is not done by shovels and men or even machines to scoop out the dirt, it is done with water and a huge vacuum which can pick up large boulders.  This allows all the roots of the trees to go undisturbed and intact.

The holes are slowly being filled, hopefully all back to normal soon.

Dinner tonight BBQ'd ribs, new potatoes with mint and broccoli, strawberry shortcake for dessert.

Have a great day.

Cheers

Holiday weekend.

Yesterday was a nice day to the start of the holiday weekend for Canada Day, however, today, Sunday is a wash out.  Cloudy with rain, the clouds look as if they are full of it for the entire day.  Feeling sorry for those families who have decided to go camping, been there, done that, it is not fun with three children to entertain in close quarters.

A lot of laundry got done yesterday, bedding including the blanket and spread.  Hubby was repairing the shower floor.

We went for a ride just around the city as the sky looked as if it could open up  at any time and we did not want to get caught out with the top down.   On the way home we stopped and bought tickets for the movie I want to see, we are doing that today, good move as nothing can be done outside, then we stopped for an ice cream.

I sorted out some clothes I want to take when we go on vacation, always take too many but try and coordinate a few tops with a couple pairs of pants or capris.  Weather can be iffy in Scotland so one must be prepared for anything.

Not much else happening today.

Have a great day.

Cheers.
